Using Nature Cues to Grow Your Garden
Phenology is the study of the timing of seasonal changes in plants and animals from year to year. Many gardeners use this information (phenological observations of seasonal changes) such as the flowering of plants and emergence of insects, to guide their planting schedules and for some, to maximize crop production.
Some seasonal observations include:
“Blooming crocus are your cue to plant radishes, parsnips and spinach.”
“When lilacs are in full bloom, it is safe to plant tender annual flowers.”
