Native Plant Gardening - Spring Care Workshop - for EHS MEMBERS ONLY

Whether you’re an experienced native plant gardener, or interested in getting started, this workshop is for you because when it comes to spring maintenance, less is more!

EHS member Douglas Counter is keen to share his practical knowledge gained over 29 years creating—and enjoying—his beautiful, environmentally-beneficial gardens including a sunny prairie, a shady woodland, and a cleansing stormwater infiltration boulevard—that require minimal maintenance, and offer year-round enjoyment as habitat for wondrous wildlife, from butterflies and other pollinators, to raptors, migrating songbirds and more.

What you will learn:

This 1.5-hour outdoor workshop includes:

-how to increase the ecological value of your garden as functioning pollinator habitat while dramatically reducing routine maintenance and watering;

-the value of undisturbed fallen leaves for overwintering bee, butterfly and moth larvae;

-leaving trimmed dead plant stalks for solitary bee habitat;

-outdoor propagation of native plants from seed;

-all shared during a walk-around tour of Douglas’ early spring gardens located near the Etobicoke Civic Centre,

Offered on two dates, space is limited so register today ($20 fee):

  1. Saturday, April 4 (rain date Sun, April 5) from 1:30-3:00pm, OR

  2. Sunday, April 12 (rain date Sat, April 18) from 1:30-3:00pm

Registration Cost: $20 per person
